This is our last week for the first grading period. It is crazy how fast this time went. We will be completing Checkpoints this week. Checkpoints are our big assessments to show what skills were mastered during the grading period. We use this information to revisit and review our first 9-week’s skills. We take a grade on the Checkpoint only to encourage students to try their best. We have our first field trip September 28, 2016. AR goals are due for the grading period on Friday. Fall Break will begin October 3rd through the 7th. I sent out conference confirmations on Friday. I will do a second letter after Fall Break to make sure I get everyone. Thank you! -Mr. McDannald | Reminder: |

Math EQs: How do I demonstrate understanding of a digit's value up 1,000. How do I order and compare numbers up to 1,000?

We had a great week last week. I look forward to the fun events latter this week. Math was a slow start, but we are doing amazing things as we continue building on the skills from last chapter. Do not be alarmed if the grades from the first math test were lower than you expected. The first test is always the hardest, and the students start realizing the importance of trying their best after parents see the first test. I will start giving partial credit on math test problems starting with the next test. I really like the first math test to be a learning experience. Sorry about MyOn getting broken this week. Once passwords and accounts smooth out, I will resend that information. Please do not forget to buy your bracelet for the camp themed Fall Festival on September 16, 2016, I hope everyone comes out to participate in the fun and activities happening at Fairmont. -Mr. McDannald | Reminder: |
Math EQs: How do I demonstrate understanding of a digit's value up 1,000. How do I write numbers up to 1,000 in more than one way.
Reading EQs: How do I demonstrate understanding of my vocabulary? How do we understand the elements of a story? How do I write a personal narrative?
I hope everyone had a great extended weekend. I tried to encourage chapter books to go home on Friday to makeup for any missed reading on Monday. I hope to see many AR quizzes the day we return. I have MyOn accounts working. The students learned how to log in to that program Friday. I demonstrated how students could use MyOn for AR homework at home. One thing you might want to encourage with your child is turning off the “read-to-me” option. I can manage only single books at a time for now, but soon I will be able to disable that option from my teacher account. Do not forget about some upcoming events! We have PTA and Open House Tuesday– September 6, 2016. at 6:30. Then on September 16, 2016, we have the Fall Festival. I hope to see everyone there at both nights. Thank you, and have a great week! -Mr. McDannald | Reminder: |
