I hope everyone enjoyed Fall Festival. Last week was super busy with all the events. We will complete our first set of Checkpoints this week. We use the Checkpoints as a measurement of what the students learned the past 9-weeks and as a reference to what we need to spiral back to after the break. Please make sure your student understands the importance of putting in their best effort on these tests. These tests will be marked on the report card separately from the other grades. I have most conference letters and I am working on the schedule. It looks like everyone will be able to come during one of their five choices. I will send home confirmation letters after Fall Break so that it won’t be as hard to remember. Please let me know if something comes up and if you will no longer be able to make your appointment. I will ask the students to brink home a chapter book and a couple of shorter books over the Fall Break. Please encourage students to read during the break. I hope that every student will be ready to quiz on AR first thing October 12, 2015. There will not be school October 5– 9 , 2015 for Fall Break. Thank you and enjoy your week! -Mr. McDannald Math EQs: What are some ways to remember differences? How are number sentences used to show addition and subtraction situations? | Reminder: |

If you have questions about progress reports, please let me know. It is hard to be super accurate with the first mid-terms dues to having fewer grades and students just learning the weekly routines. Something to look towards are: Monday, September 14, 2015– First Day of Homework Club Friday, September 25, 2015– Fall Festival Friday, October 2, 2015– End of the nine-week term. I went ahead and updated the AR daily reading to match the contracts I sent home last Thursday. Mrs. McGill had the students reading 30 minutes a night. I have been previously putting 20 minutes on my Daily Assignment Sheet. Sorry for the confusion. I am still working out where to have my conferences. Homework Club will be meeting in my room, so I might have to have my Fall conferences scheduled in one of the other second grade classrooms. Be on the look out for the conference signup sheet in the communication folder soon. -Mr. McDannald | Reminder: |

I hope everyone had a great extended weekend. We have a very busy week since we were out one day. One less day to study spelling words. I wanted to share with everyone a small schedule of upcoming events:
Tuesday, September 8, 2015– Open House
Wednesday, September 9, 2015- Midterm Progress Reports
Monday, September 14, 2015– First Day of Homework Club
Friday, September 25, 2015– Fall Festival
Friday, October 2, 2015– End of the nine-week term.
We have almost half the class with their AR goals for the 9-weeks. If your students do have their AR goal, please encourage them to still complete their AR reading every night. AR goals will increase during the second nine-weeks. Students should continue to grow their stamina for reading so that they will be able to complete their new goals. I will start challenging students to read more chapter books once they have their goal. Thank you and have a great week. See you Tuesday night!
