We had a great week last week. The students seemed to enjoy the habitat lesson on coral reefs. We will continue working on habitats this week with our focus being rain forests. We will wrap up with comparing both coral reefs and rain forests. We continue working on data and graphing in math. The students are doing extremely well with the subject. We should be testing on data and graphing by the end of the week. I can start taking times for Spring conferences. Please send in a list of dates and times that work best for you. I will create a separate letter later this week to help schedule those dates. We have started working on cursive writing. We are doing brief lessons to help teach each cursive letter. We do not have much time set aside to teach cursive, so please do not be discouraged if the work going home is not perfect. We are doing our best. Our main goal is to be able to read the cursive writing from texts and AR books. If you have any questions, please let me know! -Mr. McDannald | AR goals have started over for the 9-weeks. Every student should have a new reading level. |
Math EQs: How do we take a survey for data collection? How do I create a table to show data? How do I read a picture graph? How do I read a bar graph? I do I organize data from a story problem into a graph?

I hope everyone had a pleasant weekend. We are at the end of the 9-weeks. I wanted to give a schedule of events for the next couple of weeks so that you are aware of what is going on in the classroom. Tuesday– March 8– ELA Checkpoints Wednesday– March 9– Math Checkpoints, Sports Pictures Friday– March 11– Picture Day Monday– March 14 through 18- Spring Break Wednesday– March 23– Report Cards Friday- March 25– Good Friday (No School) This is the last week for AR goals before report cards. I am working hard on bringing up quiz averages. We have been going over strategies to increase the success rate of quizzes. Some of these strategies include having the students read aloud to themselves, having the students look through the Table of Contents to show what they know, asking the students questions about key terms, and having the students retell stories or interesting facts about their books. If you have any other questions about AR or the March schedule, please let me know. Thank you. -Mr. McDannald | Spring pictures will be March 11, 2016. Please wear bright colors! |
