We had a great week learning about time and Jackie Robinson. I am trying to provide more supplemental work that students can do at home if the homework I send is not enough. I passed out login information for Think Central last Thursday. Students can access their math and reading materials if they have internet access. Think Central works best on Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Android tablets will also run it pretty well. If you use Think Central on an iPad, try looking for the app. We will test on telling time this week, we will also review money. We move on to measurement for the next couple of weeks. I am working with students on Front Row for some writing. I will try to find a way to send home those writing samples and grades. I enjoyed watching some basketball games Saturday. We have some very talented athletes in my class. Keep up the hard work! -Mr. McDannald | Please check the updated 2015-2016 school calendar. We will be at school all February. |
Math EQs: What do we know about the measurement of time? How do you tell time to the hour and half hour on a analog clock? How do you tell time to the five minutes on a analog clock?

We had a great four day week. Many students came back ready to quiz on AR, and they had great averages on those quizzes. I would like to take time again to explain AR expectations this 9-weeks. The students should have two AR books and a chapter book each night. I am asking students to read at least 30 minutes a night since homework is light. Students that would like to attend the AR party must have 80% average on AR quizzes, and they must have their point goals. We will continue most of our skills from last week. We are still dealing with characters responding to events (cause and effect), and then we will be wrapping up money before the extended weekend. Please let me know if there are any changes to dismissal plans for your student. With inclement weather season approaching, I could use any updates to phone numbers that you might have. If we have an unforeseen early dismissal one day, I will need to make contact with as many parents as I can to know of dismissal plans. If you have any questions, please let me know. -Mr. McDannald | Reminder: |
Math EQs: How do I find the value of a total group of coins? How do I show the same value for different collections of coins? How do I show the value of a dollar? How do I solve story problems using money?
Reading EQs: How do I explain how characters respond to events? How do I determine the meanings of our vocabulary words? How do I write showing my opinion?
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a pleasant and restful break. We will move quickly into the third 9-weeks. I plan to STAR test this week to discover the best reading levels for Accelerated Reader. Please be on the lookout for any changes to the students’ reading levels. I also will be encouraging the students to bring home a chapter book along with their normal two AR books. This is just to get the students practicing to read more and longer in preparation for third grade. We start on measurement in the math book. Our first skill will be money. In our reading book, we will be working on characters responding to events. The story we will read this week is Officer Buckle and Gloria. Just a couple of quick reminders: Report cards go out Wednesda, Homework Club starts back next Monday (Jan. 11, 2016), and please remember to send in snacks on your student’s class number day! I appreciate all that everyone did for me before the break. It was a very happy half day! If you have any questions please let me know. Thank you. -Mr. McDannald | Reminder: |
